A concert honoring women composers is taking place at Utah State University Friday evening and the Center for Women and Gender’s director Ann Austin says the concert, sponsored by the Center along with the Caine College of the Arts, starts at 7:30 p.m. in the USU Performance Hall. On KVNU’s Crosstalk show Thursday, Austin said the concert is part of Women’s History Month. “We have some of the professors from the music department, as well as their students, men and women professors, performing music exclusively written by women composers,” Austin said. “Dr. Craig Jessop is going to narrate the program. “He’ll talk about the women, the composers, and he’ll talk about the pieces of music before they’re actually performed. It will be kind of fun. It will be like a little seminar.” Jessop is dean of the College of the Arts. Austin says it is important to honor women composers by playing their music while inspiring another generation of women in music as well.
