The following are a collection of updates via Twitter from Sen. Orrin Hatch’s visit to Utah State University Friday afternoon. The updates come from KVNU’s For the People Twitter account. @KVNUftp Orrin Hatch speaking at USU now. First question from crowd is on DOMA. #utpol @KVNUftp Hatch: DOJ should defend DOMA until/if it’s repealed. But discrimination is wrong. Two people in love should share basic privileges. #utpol @KVNUftp Hatch: [On tie w/Chaffetz in polls] I say good for him. If it were me, I’d want somebody who knows what he’s doing. #utpol @KVNUftp Hatch: Always able to bring even Kennedy to the center right. He’d get all the credit, I’d get the blame. #utpol @KVNUftp Hatch: [Health care] Could’ve worked with every state instead of this big federal… “dumbass program.” #utpol @KVNUftp Hatch: Very sincere people worked on health care reform. But I guarantee you it isn’t going to work. Obama will call for single payer #utpol @KVNUftp Hatch: [Wisconsin] Unions priced themselves out of market by not working as hard as they should, excesses. #utpol @KVNUftp Hatch to students: We need to make sure you have the future that we [my gen] had. We need to address entitlement programs. #utpol @KVNUftp Q: Support defense cuts? Hatch: Any excess we should cut, but we’re in a sea on antagonism in the world. People look to the US. #utpol @KVNUftp Q: What can we do? Hatch: Education, involvement, run for state delegate, don’t swear [laughter]. #utpol @KVNUftp Hatch: You can’t cut what needs cutting without President. Obama too far left. I’m for Mitt Romney. #utpol @KVNUftp Hatch: Any one of 2012 GOP candidates for POTUS would be better than what we have now. [From crowd: “Palin?”] #utpol @KVNUftp Hatch: Some of ’em don’t like me, but Tea Party the best thing to happen to this country in years. Don’t have to agree on everything. #utpol
