Fire destroys trailer home in Smithfield

A fire in a Smithfield trailer park destroyed one home shortly after 8 a.m. on Sunday. Smithfield Fire Chief Jay Downs says a passerby saw the fire, stopped and knocked on the door alerting the resident to the fire.The resident escaped with no injuries. Downs says the fire at 245 North Main #4, was fully involved when crews and apparatus from Smithfield, North Logan, Logan, Cache County and Lewiston fire departments arrived.After the fire was extinguished, an investigation from the State Fire Marshal’s office assisted with the investigation of the cause of the fire which started under the trailer. The cause was determined to be electrical and the trailer was a complete loss. Damage was estimated at $60,000.
