Department head named for Art and Interior Design at USU

Dr. Laura Gelfand, a professor of art history and Associate Dean of Honors at the University of Arizona has been appointed head of the Department of Art and Interior Design Program at Utah State University, effective July 1. Dean Craig Jessop of the Caine College of the Arts says Dr. Gelfand is the unique combination of scholar, teacher and administrator with vision. She completed her doctorate in 1994 at Case Western Reserve University. Her masters of arts is from Williams College and her bachelor of arts is from State University of New York at Stony Brook. In 2004 she was named Outstanding Teacher of the Year at the University of Akron, a year in which she also received an Excellence in Education award from “Ohio Magazine.” In addition, Dr. Gelfand is a frequenter presenter at the Metropolitan Museum of Art ‘The Cloisters Saturday Lecture Series.’
