Brigham City police say 3 dead in apparent murder-suicide

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police in Brigham City says three people from the same family have died in what appears to be a murder-suicide. Police Lt. Mike Nelsen says 58-year-old James Hall, 57-year-old Kathy Hall and 35-year-old Erik Hall all died after suffering apparent gunshot wounds Friday morning. The family lived at Discovery Place, an independent living facility for the disabled about 59 miles north of Salt Lake City. Nelsen says investigators found a rifle and suicide note. They believe James Hall shot his wife and disabled son before shooting himself. He says a motive for the crime is under investigation. Police also say that during the shooting an errant bullet or gunpowder struck a sprinkler system designed for fire safety and caused some flooding in the building.
