Lawyer: Plea pending in 2008 Brigham City mill arson case

BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (AP) – A defense lawyer says a 25-year-old Utah man intends to plead guilty to two felony charges in a November 2008 blaze that destroyed a historic mill in Brigham City. Attorney Jon Bunderson says Luke Hunsaker will plead guilty May 19 to burglary and attempted arson in the Merrill Planing Mill blaze. The Standard-Examiner of Ogden reports that Hunsaker appeared Thursday before 1st District Court Judge Clint Judkins on burglary and a more serious arson charge. Exterior stone walls are all that remain of the mill built in 1875. It was the second historic Brigham City building to burn in a three-month period. An arson investigation continues in an August 2008 fire at the nearby J.H. Bott and Sons Monument Co.
