Providence City celebrates its founding

Wednesday was Founders Day in Providence and a celebration of the 152-year old community, first known as Spring Creek, was held at the historic Old Rock Church. There was a quilt show all day and Wednesday evening was one of reminiscences and refreshment. Informational tours of the Old Rock Church were conducted throughout the evening. The evening culminated with a pageant produced by David Low based on the history of Providence and the Old Rock Church. The history is written on a plaque that was dedicated as part of the program. Until 1968, when the Old Rock Church was sold by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it served as the Providence First Ward meeting house. The First Ward bishop from 1960 to 1963 was Jacob Fuhriman. Fifty years later, the same Jacob Fuhriman dedicated the new plaque.
