Absentee voting is underway in Franklin County where two different elections are going on this month. One deals with an over-ride for Preston School District and it is only for patrons of the district. The other vote is a Franklin County Fire District Commissioner race which is open to all registered voters in the county. Both elections are slated for Tuesday, May 17. According to the Preston Citizen, the Preston School Board is asking for $250,000 from an over-ride levy to help balance the budget for the coming year. Superintendent Barbara Taylor says it is for the same amount as last year and the money will go directly to the teacher resources, textbooks and technology. Residents can also vote for one of two candidates running for Franklin County Fire District Commissioner, incumbent Alice King or Jeff Phillips.
