Herbert not opposed to discussing privatization of Utah’s alcohol control system

Utah Governor Gary Herbert admits it is a system unique to Utah, and that is where the state controls the alcohol beverage system including the liquor stores. When questioned about it on his monthly news conference last week, Herbert said that could change.Herbert said State Representative Ryan Wilcox, R-District 7, has proposed making the alcohol control system private.”And I expect that will be a discussion upcoming if he presents that legislation,” Herbert said. “I have not seen it. I don’t know what the pros and cons of that will be.”The state-controlled liquor stores have served us pretty well for many generations. I am not afraid of the discussion and let’s see what happens.”Herbert says there are people with opinions on all sides of this issue.
