Watts gets pay raise, says he plans to turn it down

Members of the Logan Municipal Council have voted against giving themselves a seven percent pay raise as proposed by Human Services Director Gregory Cox. The council did go along with a proposed salary increase for the mayor from the current $85,378 to $92,412.Mayor Randy Watts says he plans to turn down the pay raise for himself but supports it for future mayors. A proposed eight percent power rate increase will be going into effect however. Local resident Gary Joy told the council he loves Logan and feels elected officials do a good job, but he has problems wth the power rate hike.”I still want to have my front porch light on to help to make our neighborhood safer and more beckoning and welcoming as they go by,” he said. “I’ve already changed my lightbulb to one of those little squiggily ones and so on and it’s going to be ’til I can’t do it anymore.”The budget also includes an increase in storm water fees from $3.50 a month to $4.50 a month.
