Hyrum doing well despite challenging economy

Hyrum Mayor Dean Howard this week was drumming up interest in his city’s Star Spangled Fourth of July celebration. The festivities get underway Saturday morning with a youth parade and continue through Monday.Mayor Howard was a guest on KVNU’s Crosstalk show Thursday. He also talked about Hyrum’s economy in these challenging times.”You know, overall we’re doing quite well,” Howard said. “There’s a lot of things we’d like to do that we just can’t because we don’t have the money. But we’re stretching our money the best we can, for example, using volunteers to build a new park on the west side of town.” The Independence Day celebrations in Hyrum include an address by Utah Jazz owner Gail Miller on Sunday and conclude with a full day of activities on Monday.
