Artistic Director of the Old Lyric Repertory Company (OLRC), Dennis Hassan, is anxious for a strong final two weeks in the season, which ends August 6. All productions are staged at the historic Caine Lyric Theatre, 28 West Center Street in downtown Logan. “Ticket sales have been okay, but they haven’t been as much as we would hope. With the season getting a really late start because we had such a long spring, I think a lot of people didn’t realize summer was here. And when it was here they all wanted to be outside. “Now that it’s really summer people are really thinking about going to theatre and enjoying what we have to offer.” The 2011 Old Lyric season includes Amadeus, The 39 Steps, See How They Run and Little Shop of Horrors. Hassan said there is an opportunity to see all four of the summer’s plays during the last two weeks of the Lyric season. “The Lyric is a repertory company, we open one show a week the first four weeks, but now they’re all open. So you can see all four of them one day after another. We change over every night.” He said he has been pleased with the audience response the first month of the season. “We have had great word of mouth this year. I really think we have one of the best seasons we have had in a very long time. All the shows are very strong. It’s a give and take a lot of different years. Sometimes there is one show you go, ‘Okay, I might avoid that one. It’s not quite as good.’ “Really, this year, every single one of the shows is strong, in different ways. It all depends on what you like. We produce a variety of different types of shows. Some of them are very family oriented, you don’t mind bringing your kids. Others are a little bit more serious and thought-provoking.” Hassan said mostly the season consists of very light shows, comedy, summer faire. Those visiting the Caine College of the Arts Box Office in USU’s Chase Fine Arts Center open 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, can purchase tickets for OLRC productions. Tickets are also available at the Caine Lyric Theatre downtown from 1-5 p.m., Monday through Friday and an hour prior to curtain on show nights. Individual ticket prices range from $18-$25 for adults, $15-$21 for seniors and USU faculty and staff and $12-$18 for USU students and youth. The OLRC is a professional theater program based in the Department of Theatre Arts in the Caine College of the Arts at Utah State.
