A Lewiston toddler has died after her 9-year-old brother allegedly shot her in the head with a BB gun.Cache County officials say the 3-year-old girl suffered a head injury after the shooting last Thursday. According to Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Chad Jensen, officers were notified on August 18 by the Medical Examiner’s office about the girls death. There was a delay in reporting the initial incident because the mother transported the victim to the Franklin County Medical Center. The medical center then had the child transported to Primary Children’s Medical Center and law enforcement was not contacted. Once the Medical Examiner’s office notified authorities an investigation was started. While the case is still under investigation, officers found that the victim’s two older brothers, ages 11 and 9, were pumping up their BB guns and shooting the 3-year-old in the head with the air from the gun.On the last shot, the 9-year-old pumped air into the gun and shot his sister with what he thought was air. A BB was in the gun and struck the girl in the left side of the head. The girl died from her injuries at Primary Children’s Medical Center. The case is still under investigation and more interviews need to be completed. Once the investigation is complete it will be reviewed by the Cache County Attorney’s office. The incident is still under investigation. Authorities say they expect to release more information later Wednesday.
