Solid Double Day Of Practice Wednesday For USU Football

Aggie Fact of the Day: The Aggies are opening on the road for the fourth-straight season and the fifth time in the last six years. Aggie Tidbit of the Day: USU’s opener at Auburn on Saturday, Sept. 3 is the Aggies’ second season-opener to start on Sept. 3 in the last three years, as the 2009 lid lifter was also on Sept. 3, when USU opened the Gary Andersen era in the Aggie head coach’s opener… It is also the third time in the last seven years that USU is scheduled to begin the season on Sept. 3… However, this will be the second time played in that span on Sept. 3 as the last occasion, Sept. 3, 2005, the USU game vs. Nicholls State was cancelled due to Hurricane Katrina… USU has begun the season on Sept. 3 a total of five times, but has played only four, going 1-3 overall.LOGAN, Utah – Utah State football had a double day of practice Wednesday, marking the second time of three scheduled two-a-days this week. The Aggies were in action on the practice field in the morning and on the turf of Merlin Olsen Field at Romney Stadium.USU was in practice shorts, jerseys and helmets for both practices, as Aggie head coach Gary Andersen wanted to give his squad a chance to get their legs back after some tough practices the past few days, as well as to work on game situations and scenarios. All aspects of game situations were covered, working on offense, defense and all special teams.Offensive highlights from the day included long pass plays by senior wide receiver Eric Moats, junior wide receiver Chuck Jacobs and redshirt-freshman tight end Keegan Andersen, while defensive highlights include interceptions by senior linebacker Kyle Gallagher, junior cornerback Terrance Alston and redshirt-freshman linebacker Tavaris McMillian.Utah State’s practice schedule has also changed, and the squad will not have a formal scrimmage on Thursday as originally scheduled. The Aggies will have a single practice on Thursday at 2:40 p.m. On Friday, USU will practice twice, first at 9:15 a.m. and then at 3:45 p.m., in final preparation for the final scrimmage of preseason camp on Saturday. {see below for complete practice schedule, as of 12 p.m., 8/22/11}All practices of preseason camp are open to the public. Fans are encouraged to stay in the stands when the team is practicing on Merlin Olsen Field at Romney Stadium and in the bleachers at the practice field. The event provides fans a chance to meet USU football players and coaches, participate in games and activities as well as purchase and pick-up season tickets. Activities sponsored by Macey’s Foods will begin on the South Concourse of Romney Stadium. Season tickets as well as two-game packages will be also available for purchase at the USU Football Family Fun Day on Saturday, Aug. 27 at the Romney Stadium Box Office, which is located on the South end of Romney Stadium.After its season-opener at Auburn on Saturday, Sept. 3, Utah State’s home opener is on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. (MT), taking on in-state foe Weber State, marking the first time that USU and WSU have squared off since 2001, and Utah State leads the all-time series, 11-1. The Aggie-Wildcat match-up will have special meaning for Andersen, who will be facing his mentor, Weber State head coach Ron McBride.
