A late night thunderstorm rolled through Cache Valley early Friday morning. Lightning from the storm sparked two wildland fires between Millville and Hyrum.According to Cache County Fire Marshall Jason Winn one fire is south of the coyote research facility and the other is above it, both on the face of the mountain.”There were two lightning strikes on the Millville face,” Winn says. Each fire is described to be approximately half of an acre in size.”We were called out at 2 a.m. this morning,” Winn continues. “We watched it for several hours because with the lightning we weren’t going to send crews up there. We got a crew together this morning.”Winn says there are five fire fighters from the Cache County Fire District and two with a helicopter crew to help dump water on the fire from above. With record-tying and even record-breaking heat this week, fire danger is increasing and people are encouraged to be mindful of the hot and dry conditions in the backcountry.Crews contained and mopped up the fires by Friday afternoon.
