A Cache County Jail inmate passed away Wednesday night after experiencing a medical emergency at the jail. Lt. Doyle Peck says 50-year old Bart Burris of Logan was brought to the jail late Tuesday after being arrested on an outstanding warrant. He says Burris was known to have an extensive medical and mental health history and was placed in a medical observation cell. In the early evening, jail personnel entered the cell and began performing life saving treatment Paramedics were called and continued to provide treatment until Burris was taken to the hospital. He later died at Logan Regional Hospital. In a prepared statement Sheriff Lynn Nelson said it appears the medical personnel and correctional staff all acted in accordance with standard operating procedures. The Weber County Attorney’s Office will perform an independent investigation and the State Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death.
