North Logan man charged with child abuse of stepson

24-year old Brandon Randall Nelson, North Logan, is in the Cache County Jail facing sexual abuse and child abuse charges against his 3-year old stepson. North Park Police Chief Kim Hawkes says officers responded to Nelson’s residence on August 31st at approximately 4 a.m. to a reported medical emergency of a child experiencing seizures. The boy was transported to Logan Regional Hospital for treatment. Hospital personnel later contacted the North Park Police Department stating the boy had a skull fracture and his injuries were suspicious. Hawkes says the boy’s condition deteriorated and he was transported to Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City. Chief Hawkes says based on the information collected through medical records, interviews by the county attorney’s office and the boy’s mother, Nelson was taken into custody Tuesday evening. He has been charged with aggravated sexual abuse of a child, inflicting serious physical injury of a child intentionally, and tampering with evidence. Hawkes says the Division of Child and Family Services has removed a 4-year old boy from the home and placed him with grandparents until further investigation. Nelson is scheduled to be arraigned in court Friday and more information about the charges is anticipated.
