USU vs CSU post game quotes

Utah State Head Coach Gary Andersen

“Obviously this was a heart breaking loss, no question about it. I don’t have much further answers other than that. You lose a turn over battle 4-1. You’re not going to win games, period. If that’s the case, you’re going to have a hard time winning games. At the end I thought we were worn down defensively, our ability to not stop the run was defiantly a factor as we got into the last part of the game and in the over times. The reason we went for two, is because I believe in the team. I believe we can score from the 3-yard line at any time and I surely believe we can score from the 1.5 yard line. I would do it again in one second. I’m always going to coach aggressive and that’s what I’m going to be. That’s all I got.”

Colorado State Head Coach Steve Fairchild

“I feel very happy for our kids and our coaches. There was never any doubt on our sideline; we thought that we could come back. That was a real positive for us.”How were your nerves on their second attempt for a two point conversion?”There was some screwball stuff that happened out there that allowed the game to get to where it did. We just fought, they believed and if they didn’t believe in themselves they wouldn’t have been able to come back.”Were you surprised that Utah State went for two to win the game?”Not really. I did expect it, I am sure that they believe in their offense and Gary Andersen is a good coach. It’s a good call when it works and it isn’t when it doesn’t.”

Utah State Running Back Robert Turbin

“Obviously a disappointing loss, just too many mistakes on our side, couldn’t keep control of the football with that many turnovers. Keep doing that and we won’t win football games as we witnessed tonight.”A lot of emotion after the game, how big of a game was this and what are the feelings after?”We feel it was very important game and could have helped our confidence. We feel like we are championship caliber team and that we could have won this and that we needed to win it to give us momentum going into the other games. We have a lot of momentum on our side it would have brought us more confidence on our side. With the loss, I don’t know if it brings our confidence down, for me it doesn’t. It definitely hurts and it is going to be hard to come back from.”What were your thoughts when on your last play?”You know I thought I lost the game. I just had to sit there and think about for a minute. But you have to give it to CSU for what they did defensively on that play. When we work out and train I beg coaches to let me make those key plays. I trust Coach Baldwin with all confidence in calling the plays. So I think maybe I could have stopped on a dime and turned the other way, make something out of nothing. Try to hook into my inner Barry Sanders or something like that.”Did you like the call for going for two instead of kicking the extra point?”Yeah we have a two point play, we practice that play every time we practice.”

Utah State Safety Walter McClenton:

“First and for most I want to thank God, he has been there a lot for me and this team. We are getting better, we are getting better. I want to thank Him for life, it is a hurtful loss but then I know we will get past it. On defense we probably did wear down on defense. It probably was the fatigue factor but still we have to stand up at some point. Offense was having a tough night, but we are here to stop the opposing team. We played great for 3 quarters I don’t want to say that history repeats its self, but we saw the same thing against Auburn. We have to make a stop.”
