Rain, sleep, and bribes don’t deter contest winner

Outlasting other contestants for 47 hours and 47 minutes, Dave Munk was able to keep his hand firmly planted on a mattress longer than anyone else and walked away with a sofa love seat, dining room set, bedroom set and mattress from Furnish 123, a $2,400 value. Munk, along with 19 other contestants, began the contest at 12 noon Friday, October 7 under a tent in front of the store at 800 South Main in Logan. He was declared the winner at 11:47 Sunday morning after enduring rain, cold temperatures, sleep deprivation and offers from the store to walk away early. Rules for the give-away stipulated that contestants could not remove their hand from the mattress, once they did they were eliminated. Breaks were allowed for contestants but the time between breaks progressively got larger and larger as the contest went on. Five contestants remained Sunday morning at 5 a.m. after an eight hour period from the last break. The top five were all given a new pillow to go home and sleep with. Robert Tripp was the runner up and he was given a rocker recliner for coming in second. Tripp was eliminated for leaning against the mattress. Third place contestant, Jordan Knutson, was lured away at 11:25 a.m. Sunday with two rocker recliners. Ashley Ryan, who would have come in fourth place, was eliminated for accidentally reaching for her iPod with her wrong hand, removing it from the mattress at around 10:15 a.m. Fifth place contestant Lisa Parkinson was lured away at 5 a.m. with a three day, two night hotel stay. The contest was sponsored by Furnish 123 and radio stations 94.5/98.3 VFX, KIX 96, Q92, 95.9 KLZX and KOOL 103.9.
