Local political activist endorses Paul but not any local candidates

Two years ago Michelle King led the so-called Independence Caucus which endorsed candidates for Logan City mayor and city council. She decided against doing that this year but instead created a new website: YourAlabasterCity.com.King says she does feel there are some good candidates running for Logan Municipal Council this year and there were other good ones who got defeated in the Primary. Only six percent of the registered voters went to the polls in the Primary and King called that percentage, “dismal.” She says the turnout was only three percent in her own neighborhood yet some of the decisions affect them directly.”Especially with 10th West,” King says, “changes with the street lights, finances while the city is spending money on other things like welcome signs and the club house and such.”King has not publicly endorsed any Logan City candidates but there is a Karl Ward sign on her lawn. She has been a vocal supporter of Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul, however, for a long time and now King has become part of the local Young Adults for Ron Paul organization.King says the media continue to brush off Ron Paul as a legitimate candidate, even immediately after he comes out near the top in a national poll.”I think it’s kind of a self-fulfilling prophesy when that happens in the media,” King says. “But I think he does have a legitimate chance, especially if he can get the GOP nomination. “All allegations that he couldn’t beat Obama are false. Anybody who gets the GOP nomination has a fair chance of doing that.”King says the fact that Republicans don’t have a strongly-favored candidate could end up helping Ron Paul. She says he is the only candidate with a specific plan for reducing the deficit.
