BROOKINGS, S.D. — Taking on a team who has made three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, the Utah State women’s basketball team went in to South Dakota State’s Frost Arena, ready for a fight. Unfortunately, that fight ended in the Jackrabbit’s favor, with the Aggies falling 84-73. The always-tough Jackrabbits received votes in the most recent USA Today Coaches’ poll.Once again, senior forward Ashlee Brown led the way for the Aggies. Beating her own career high of 26, Brown earned 31 points for the Aggies. She shot 8-for-11 from the field and 15-for-19 from the free throw line. Along with along six steals and 11 rebounds, she had the biggest impact on the game. The Jackrabbits were led by junior guard Ashley Eide. She had 27 points and eight rebounds in her 35 minutes of play. The Aggies fell behind early in the game, scoring just two points in the first nine minutes of play. In that same amount of time, SDSU scored 18 points. By the middle of the first half, the points slowly started to stack up, and the Aggies went on a 6-0 run. They ended the half behind at 39-24. Free throw shots were the saving grace of the Aggies Sunday afternoon, and made up 35 of the teams’ 73 points. They shot for 88 percent from the line, hitting all but one shot in the second half. Senior guard Brooke Jackson made all seven of her free throw shots. Drawing a high number of fouls helped the Aggies to the majority of the points, but they were just as quick to dish out the fouls, fouling the Jackrabbits a total of 27 times. While no one fouled out, Brown, Jackson, senior center Maddy Plunkett and sophomore guard Jennifer Schlott all had four fouls each. The Aggies are on their way home, ready to return to the familiar area of the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. They will take on the Wildcats of Weber State, Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.Fans can follow USU women’s basketball at http://twitter.com/UTAHSTATEofmind and Utah State athletics at http://twitter.com/USUAthletics.Live stats will be available for most Utah State women’s basketball games through the women’s basketball page on www.utahstateaggies.com, by clicking on GameTracker in the current events box.
