Utah’s public schools grew by 11,500 students

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – Utah’s public schools grew by 11,500 students, or about 2 percent, over the past year. The state Office of Education released figures this week showing there are 587,745 students in Utah public schools.Alpine School District in northern Utah County now is the state’s largest with 68,233 students, slightly bigger than the Granite and Davis districts. Jordan District ranks fourth in enrollment followed by Canyons. Both are in Salt Lake County.State figures show charter schools now account for about 8 percent of the total, or nearly 45,000 students.
