A budget for 2012 was adopted by the Cache County Council Tuesday night following a discussion and debate about salaries for employees. County Executive Lynn Lemon earlier had set aside $250,000 for salaries with money saved from debt payments made early. The council agreed to use that money for pay increases and Lemon says it will be an average of 1.8 percent increase based on merit.Later, Lemon was able to free up an additional $300,000 from the budget but that won’t be used right now.”We’ll wait and see what happens with the economy, whether the revenues actually materialize,” Lemon explains. “We’ll come up with a step and grade plan and then we’ll see what we do with the rest of it after July 1.”He says elected officials will receive a 1.8 percent pay increase as well. Sheriff Lynn Nelson had pushed hard to bring the salaries of his deputies closer to that of law enforcement offices in other areas of the state. Lemon says the council will be taking a serious look at what they can do.
