Could be an eventful Gossner Classic

The Athletes-in-Action Classic, sponsored by Gossner Foods, will be going on for the next three days at Utah State University. It should make for some exciting basketball. There will be four teams participating: Utah State, Texas-Arlington, St. Peter’s and Kent State. It is probably safe to say that the favorite coming into the tournament is the Kent State Golden Flashes with a record of 7-1. Utah State currently has a record of 5-5. Texas-Arlington also comes in with a record of .500 at 4-4. And St. Peter’s has the worst record of all the teams with a record of 2-7. This is a pretty rigorous schedule for all the teams with every team playing three games in three nights. There are games on December 20, 21 and 22, with a doubleheader every night. The first game every evening will be played at 5:30 p.m.Utah State will always play in the later game with tip-off being at 8:05 p.m. If USU can win all three games they can help improve their record before they play at Mississippi State, who is currently ranked in the top 25. These games could be a big boost of confidence for USU because after Mississippi State they start conference play.Sometimes, when teams come into town to play in the annual tournament, they do something in the community, such as visiting Hardware Ranch or the Cache Valley Fun Park. Gregg Elkin, the Associate Athletic Director for Communications at Texas-Arlington, said that UTA is going to be so busy playing games this week that they won’t have time to do anything except play basketball and practice. Those who have interest in going to all three USU games in the Gossner Classic can buy a bundle package for $45. People can also buy individual tickets for $15 to $17. These are games that probably don’t want to be missed, especially the Kent State game.
