POSTGAME QUOTES Utah State vs. Kent State Dec. 22, 2011

Utah State Head Coach Stew Morrill…”Well, the tournament on a whole was encouraging and tonight was certainly encouraging. A lot of the stats that you look at we obviously had a good night. We shot a high percentage, we held them to a low percentage, we out-rebounded an athletic bunch. Against all of their pressure we only turned it over 13 times, we had 23 assists and some things that we have done in the past we are getting better at, taking care of the ball, sharing the ball and some of those things. I don’t think that they (Kent State) were quite themselves tonight, they have a really good basketball team, I don’t think that they were quite themselves and hopefully we had something to do with that. We have a lot of different guys who are stepping up and playing, and that’s what it takes. I mean, Kyisean (Reed) had a huge night, lots of spectacular plays. Preston Medlin’s line is unbelievably efficient.Morgan Grim had two great games back-to-back. I thought that Brockeith Panehandled the pressure awfully well. Good win for us, a good tournament for us, coming into this four-game stretch we talked about trying getting ourselvesgoing with four home games and we were able to do that.” Sophomore Guard Preston Medlin…”We played good as a team and it was nice. The middle game they came out and wouldn’t let me get shots up, but other guys played good and we still won. I was trying to make plays for everyone else. These guys were way more aggressive on the perimeter, they were trapping it, and that got me a lot more open shots because guys were rotating and havingopen screens. The team is getting better, we’ve gotten a lot more practice in. We’re starting to be more aggressive and play better defense and that’s really helping. Coach is getting down to how he wants the rotation to go and that’s helping as well. They played different defenses trying to throw us off, but we came out and ran our sets hard and screened and did a good job.” Kent State’s Head Coach Rob Senderoff…”I’ll say this, that I’m not coming back, that’s for sure. This will be my last time at the Utah State tournament. This was not a very good one for us. Utah State is very, very good. We’re just not where we need to be as a team right now and we need to figure out how to get back there. Obviously, Utah State deserves the credit for that game. They played very, very well. They played well all three games. They’re a nice team. We have to go back home and regroup and try and figure out how we can get better.”—–
