James: new delegate format favors Romney

Anything can happen in the Iowa Caucus on Tuesday but a local Republican leader expects candidate Mitt Romney to be around at least for some time. David James, former Cache County Republican Party Chairman and current member of the state party’s central committee, says it is not like 2008 when some of the states were winner take all.”Even if he winds up with a bad showing in, say South Carolina, he can keep going,” James says of Romney. “He has plenty of money and can keep collecting delegates as he goes. “So I think Romney will definitely be there through the primary season, more than likely wind up on top.”James says that will depend a lot on whether or not Romney can coalesce with supporters of some of the other candidates who drop out before long. James considers Newt Gingrich a “flavor of the month” candidate who is starting to wilt, but he believes Romney has more, “staying power” and the “anyone but Romney” comments seem to be dissipating.
