SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – A Utah pain doctor sentenced to 20 years in federal prison is appealing his conviction on federal drug charges.Court records show attorneys for Dewey MacKay filed the notice of appeal Wednesday with Denver’s 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.The appeal seeks an acquittal for the 64-year-old Brigham City doctor on some of the charges of illegal distribution of prescription drugs.A jury in Salt Lake City’s federal court convicted MacKay of 40 of 86 counts in August.MacKay is to report to prison on Feb. 1.Lawyers for McKay were back in court Wednesday trying to keep him out of prison pending the appeal.The lawyers also argued against government seizure of his assets.U.S. District Court Judge Dee Benson didn’t make an immediate decision.
