POST-GAME QUOTES Utah State vs. Nevada Jan. 7, 2012

Utah State vs. NevadaJan. 7, 2012Utah State Head Coach Stew Morrill…”I was proud of our guys; they played really, really hard. We had lots of chances. It would have been really interesting if we could have got ahead. It was 56-56, and there were lots of chances to go ahead and we just couldn’t capitalize. Nevada is really good; their athleticism really bothered us, especially on the boards. I think that was the stat the proved to be the difference, they got a lot of offensive boards, and we just couldn’t keep them off the glass. We knew that this was an issue for this team, still is an issue for this team. We work hard on it everyday in practice. We are just not very big, and we are not very athletic. It doesn’t help when our best athlete, Kyisean (Reed) doesn’t even play. He got in foul trouble and was a non-factor. Give them a lot of credit, when the game is on the line and (Deonte) Burton hits a huge shot, something that he has done before. We kept playing; we never gave up. We kept trying to give ourselves a chance, and we had some chances. You look at the stats, and we did some things very well offensively, we just had a hard time keeping them off the boards and stopping them.”Senior Guard Brockeith Pane…”Those guys really came prepared to play. You have got to take your hat off to them, and Deonte Burton played well tonight. You can tell that he has worked on his games since last season. I take my hat off to that guy. He hit tough shots, and I tried to play him tough on defense and get a hand in his face.”Nevada Head Coach David Carter…”That’s as tough as it goes. We’ve been in positions where we’re only up two or four points at half, and we make a run. I just told the guys to keep their composure, to keep fighting and to keep believing they could win the game. We knew we could make runs, and they had a couple of spots where they just missed down the stretch. Deonte (Burton) made plays. It gets to a point where I tell the guys they just have to make plays. It’s not the sets that you run; it’s what you do within those sets. I thought we made some key plays with Burris’ (Jordan Burris) big three and when Deonte made that two-footer to put us above five. Once we got that cushion, we were able to hold on.”
