It is time to give up on the idea of Cache County garbage going to a landfill in Box Elder County. Tuesday night Cache County Executive Lynn Lemon told the county council he’s learned from Box Elder County Commissioner Lou Ann Adams that a proposed agreement to use that landfill has not been reached and apparently cannot be reached.”I know that they made a valiant effort,” Lemon told the council. “I actually went there in December with (Logan) Mayor (Randy) Watts, with (Logan Environmental Director) Issa (Hamoud) and Darrel Gibbons. We met with the committee and tried to answer a number of questions. “I asked her if there was something in particular but she said…they voted against the regional landfill and she said it just got to the point where there were too many challenges.”The Cache County Council has approved a rezone of land near Newton for a new Cache County landfill. Lemon says residents of the area who oppose that site are certain to be disappointed.
