The 5th Annual Ag Chili Cook-off will be hosted by the College Of Agriculture at Utah State University on Saturday, January 28th, 2012 at 5 p.m. The event will be on campus at the Lundstrom Student Center located at 1295 East 1000 North in Logan. If people are interested in submitting chili for the competition it is $3 for USU students and $5 for all other entrants. For those who want to taste the chili, tickets are $3 for individuals, $5 for couples and $10 for families. “This year’s event promises to be an exciting time,” says Lisa Allen, academic advisor in the College of Agriculture. “The Sagwich Basin Boys a local band from Avon, Utah, will be back again to provide music and entertainment as participants enjoy a variety of chilis and fresh corn bread.” Allen says they feel the Chili Cook-off has been pretty successful in the past and people are encouraged to come. The proceeds from the cook-off will be going to help with the Cache Valley Food Bank expansion. Sometimes people assume nobody wants to be a farmer anymore. However, Allen says enrollment numbers have gone up the last few years in the College of Agriculture because students want to learn how to grow their own food and how to be sustainable. This is always a fun event and everybody is encouraged to attend and support the College of Ag and its activities. The event will primarily consist of music, cornbread and chili. Event organizers encourage people who come to bring their own muffin trays so they can try multiple chilis. For more information about submitting chili for the competition, or for any questions about the event, contact Allen at 435-797-0454.
