UPDATE: Mendon toddler dies after father backs car over him

“A very tragic accident…the worst kind.” That’s the way Cache County Sheriffs Lieutenant Matt Bilodeau describes the death of a 2-year-old Mendon boy who died Monday after his father backed a car over him at the family residence.Bilodeau says the boy’s mother had just arrived home and the boy was playing outside about 11:40 a.m. Monday. The boy’s father was backing out of the garage and stopped when he felt he’d run over something.”The father needed to leave the residence and he was backing out, felt like he bumped into or ran over something,” Bilodeau says. “He got out and discovered it was his son. “When emergency responders had arrived the boy was no longer breathing. They administered CPR. LifeLight was called. Due to the location they didn’t know if an ambulance would get there sooner or if LifeFlight would. He was transported to Logan Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.”Officials say the father will be interviewed and have his blood tested for drugs or alcohol per state law.Names of those involved will be released after family members have all been notified.
