Cinderella story told in Music Theatre West production of The Slipper and the Rose

It opens Thursday on the stage of the Ellen Eccles Theatre: “The Slipper and the Rose.” Music Theatre West founder and director Jay Richards describes the show as the, “best of all versions of Cinderella.” Performances are February 9-11 and again Feb. 13-14 at 7:30 p.m. each night, plus a matinee at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Richards says as Cinderella McKenna Lewis of Smithfield knocks it out of the park. Lewis, who also played Beth in Music Theatre West’s Little Women, talks about her role. “I’m going for kind of a mix between the traditional Cinderella that you think of as being the epitome of being feminine, delicate beauty and also a little bit of personality like Rapunzel from the move Tangled. She’s still relateable, she still has some faults and some weaknesses. She has some quirks but she is still very feminine and refined and beautiful.” Richards says the charming new version of Cinderella which features music and lyrics by ichard M and Robert B Sherman, will delight people of all ages.
