Bishop has Tea Party challenger

It appears as though U.S. Representative Rob Bishop, R-District 1, will have a challenger this year from within his own party. Tea Party activist Jacque Smith, of Wanship, launched her campaign Tuesday with the slogan “Mrs. Smith Goes to Washington.”Smith started the STAR Forum, a Summit County Tea Party group, and she describes Congress as, “a den of vipers.” However, she says she feels compelled to help protect her liberties.Smith admits that there are similarities between her views and those of Bishop. But she says his support for the National Defense Authorization Act drove her into the race. A mother of five, Smith runs a plumbing company with her husband. She currently serves as secretary of the Summit County Republicans.
