Utah revenue projections increase slightly

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The projected revenues from taxes and fees for Utah have increased by about $14 million in February.Republican Rep. Mel Brown of Coalville says the budget surplus for ongoing programs is $289 million, up from $280 million in January. There is also $133 million in one-time funds that are generally used for projects or saved in reserve accounts, an increase from $128 million last month.Lawmakers will use the updated numbers to finalize the state budget before the end of this year’s legislative session on March 8.Republican leaders have already cautioned there will be little money to spend after the growth in public education and Medicaid is funded.Leaders from both parties are scheduled to meet Tuesday to begin prioritizing budget requests from state agencies.
