Trenton man pleads guilty to December robbery of convenience store

LOGAN — Ahiven Melendez, Trenton, pleaded guilty in 1st District Court to aggravated robbery and failure to stop at the command of law enforcement during his pretrial conference March 20. Melendez is a 17-year-old being tried as an adult. Prosecuting attorney Barbara Lachmar said Melendez was arrested with another minor after holding up an employee of Kelly’s Convenience Store, commonly known as the Foothill Mart, on Dec. 13, 2011. She said the employee had his keys and phone taken by Melendez and another minor after they displayed firearms. Lachmar said after the robbery the minors led police in a short chase that ended when the minors crashed the vehicle they were driving. She said police then arrested the two juveniles. Melendez will return to 1st District Court for sentencing May 1 at 9 a.m.
