Many people are wondering why Park Avenue is closed along the Logan River Golf Course and how long it will be closed. Logan City Public Works director Mark Nielsen says crews are trying to get a project on Park Avenue done before the Logan River starts to rise. “We’re putting culverts across Park Avenue Road,” Nielsen says, “in order to get more drainage going from east to west so we don’t have to over top that road all the time.” Nielsen says the road is closed from Golf Course Road to 1600 South near ICON and will be shut down for a few more weeks. “It’s probably going to take us, I would say, about a month to get all of those culverts in and back-filled and repaved.” A major road project on 200 East is also getting closer to reality. Nielsen says offers are being made on eight homes that will need to come down so that road can be widened through the Island. Nielsen says it is hoped to get that done by the end of the year so that road work can start next spring. Preparations are also being made for the 1000 West project on the north side. Nielsen says the city cut out some items in the project because of the price tag so what happened with cost over-runs with Phase One won’t happen again.
