The economy may be down but tourism is up at least in Cache Valley. Julie Hollist, executive director of the Cache Valley Visitors Bureau, says as of last Friday people from 42 states and 21 different countries have already come to visit.
“We’ve also had a huge increase in our requests for information from all over the world and the United States, of course,” Hollist continued. “That’s always a strong indicator of how things are going to be. As of this year, through (Thursday), we had received 10,096 requests for information.”
On KVNU’s Crosstalk show, Hollist said on the same date last year there had been 7,018 requests for information so the number is up by more than 3,000 this ear.
Why is this happening during a slow economy? Hollist says people tell her they are tired of staying home and they know that tourism can really boost the economy.
