LOGAN—At one point in the evening the vote was deadlocked, but when it was over, incumbent Cache County Council member Cory Yeates had won the right to seek a fifth four-year term.
Tuesday’s local Republican Primary election saw Yeates with a total of 52.4 percent of the votes compared to retired Logan Police Officer Eric Collins 47.6 percent.
Following the race, Yeates had high praise for Collins and said they are great friends.
“As I told him, my wife and I had considered not running this time, but when nobody filed we really hadn’t filed anyway,” Yeates said. “He mentioned that he wants to run again, I want him to stay active and run for this seat in four years.”
Yeates now goes on to face Democratic candidate Barry Franklin in the November election.
