Providence votes symbolic ‘No’ on emissions testing

On a 3-2 vote the Providence City Council approved a resolution Tuesday opposing Cache County’s implementation of an emissions testing program. At first, the vote was tied with council members John Russell and Ralph Call voting yes while Bill Bagley and Don Calderwood voted no.

Providence City Mayor Ron Liechty votes only in case of a tie and in order to break the tie he voted with those opposing the program. Councilmember Dale Astle was not in attendance.

The vote will likely turn out to be symbolic in nature, only. Cache County Executive Lynn Lemon met with the Providence City Council and told the them that counties have been told by the Utah Division of Air Quality that such programs must be implemented by the end of 2013.

Lemon assured the council members that the county will make sure the program causes as little burden as possible on citizens.
