Preston approves new food pantry

The Preston City Council has approved a request to construct a food pantry on the north side of the city’s archery building. Pantry spokesman Fred Knowlton told the council the addition would extend the building by 44 feet to the north.

According to the Preston Citizen, Knowlton said a committee has raised $19,000 through grants and donations and volunteer labor has been lined up so that work on the project can begin soon.

Preston Mayor Lee Hendrickson said he considers the food pantry to be a great asset to the community. City Engineer Derek Kimball told the council that he and other city officials have toured the site and see no problems with the building proposal.
