Canal reconstruction project taken off Thursday’s agenda

The issue involving the Cache Water Restoration Project has been taken off the agenda for Thursday night’s Logan Planning Commission. The engineers and other officials were scheduled to ask for a design review permit for the $25 million project.

A large crowd turned out for Tuesday’s meeting of the Logan Municipal Council and complained about unexpected and unwelcome changes made in the project.

Because so many turned out for the council meeting on Tuesday to discuss the canal project, Public Works Director Mark Nielson says he has taken those complaints to J.U.B. Engineers and others involved with the Logan-North Logan-Hyde Park-Smithfield Canal. He says those officials have agreed to review the complaints.

A special meeting of the Logan Municipal Council has been called for Tuesday, August 28 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the canal issue only.

Since it will take some time to review all of the complaints the issue will be discussed with the planning commission on September 13.

Logan, Hyde Park, Smithfield, North Logan and Cache County are all part of the canal reconstruction project.
