Day of Culture and Brotherhood celebrates diversity

Saturday Logan’s Day of Culture and Brotherhood returns to the Logan Tabernacle with events from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“This is the third year for this great event,” said Reyna Perry of the event’s planning committee. “It is sponsored by the LDS Church but it is put together by different groups in the valley. The purpose is to bring together the community and celebrate diversity.

“We will have live entertainment, people showing their talents from different cultures with singing and dancing. We will have some Burmese people showing us how they play their traditional Cane Ball game.”

Also a variety of food and crafts will be available for sale.

“This is an event meant to help us understand our differences but also to celebrate the many things we have in common.”

A simultaneous event, the Hispanic Health Coalition, focuses on bringing educational information to the Hispanic community. It will be open 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

“This event, too, is open to anyone in the community,” said Perry. “We will have different agencies on hand, explaining what they have to offer, as well as health providers doing some basic screenings such as for vision and hearing.”

She said there will be a one-mile walk, drawings, prize giveaways and bounce houses for the kids.

“These two events have been held separately before but this year we are combining them because both events are geared to the same people.”
