Lemon: vast majority of people support canal project

Cache County Executive Lynn Lemon says he appreciates all the concessions the engineers have been willing to make to try to satisfy the concerns of those who would like the new Logan-Hyde Park-Smithfield Canal to remain uncovered in the Lundstrom Park area.

At a joint Logan City-Cache County Council last week, JUB Engineers announced those concessions which added up to an additional cost of about $770,000. Lemon says they agreed to lower the pipe several feet, put the pipe totally underground so it won’t be visible and they widened the water feature.

“We had a small group of people that were upset before. They never wanted us to do this project,” Lemon says. “They’ve done everything they can to prevent it.

“I realize that there are people who don’t want us to do it. But the vast majority of people really are very supportive of it. And it does affect a huge part of the county. It doesn’t just affect a few individuals, it affects a lot of people.”

Lemon says most of the reaction he has had since the meeting has been positive.
