Conference coming up to deal with occupational health issues

A conference to help employers learn strategies to deal with certain occupational health issues is coming up Friday, October 12, at Logan’s Riverwoods Conference Center.

The Intermountain Work Med Clinic of Logan is the sponsoring agency.

“It will be useful to the Human Resource people from any employer group,” said Erla Fay Fryer, manager of the Logan Work Med Clinic. “It will be helpful to people who are subject to Department of Transportation regulations for truck driving. It applies to the safety officers of those two groups.”

She said the first portion of the conference, in the morning, would be designated for reasonable suspicion training.

“This is the training the Department of Transportation requires of all their supervisors, to be able to identify drug usage and or alcohol usage. We will go over the regulations as set forth by the DOT.

“The second portion of the meeting is on workers compensation rates and a representative of Workers Compensation Fund of Utah will attend to talk about how accidents and injuries affect an employer’s workers compensation insurance rates.”

The event runs 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and pre-registration by October 1 is required by calling 435-713-2860.
