4 year-old run over by van without major injuries

A Wellsville family is breathing a sigh of relief after their 4 year-old son survived without any major injuries after being run over by a van Wednesday afternoon. The boy’s mother, Joanna Lee, was delivering flyers for scouts at 140 West 1270 South in Wellsville shortly before 4:30 p.m. Her 4 year-old son was with her at the time. He ran out before she got in without her knowing.

After dropping off the flyers, Lee got back into the van and started to back out and realized she had backed over something. She got out of the van and saw that it was her son.

According to Cache County Sheriffs Lieutenant Brian Locke, Lee had backed over the boy’s abdomen. She put her son in the van and started driving toward Logan.

“An ambulance was dispatched and she was instructed to stop at the Arby’s at the south of Logan,” Lt. Locke said. “From there the boy was transported to Logan Regional Hospital.”

Lt. Locke says the boy underwent a CAT scan and doctors were unable to determine any major injuries, any broken bones or any internal bleeding.

“The little guy’s going to be alright but he probably took 10 years off his mom,” Lt. Locke said.

The boy is spending the night at the hospital for observation.

“He cried a lot but never lost consciousness.”
