SV volleyball wins 15th straight, 3-0 over Box Elder

SMITHFIELD— The Sky View volleyball team continued its solid play Thursday night with a 3-0 win over the Box Elder Bees. The win was the Bobcats 15th in a row, kept them undefeated in Region 5 action, and guaranteed them of at least a share of the region title.

In the first set the Bobcats wasted little time getting going as they jumped out to a 9-2 lead. Sky View seemed to be firing on all cylinders, pushing the lead to 20-8. The Bees then rallied back and pulled the score to within six.

“I thought we lacked some intensity,” SV head coach Malayna Knowles said. “We kept talking about creating our own intensity, Box Elder is always a good team, we know that we need to come out and play good.”

The Bobcats stopped the Bees nine point run to take the first set, 25-17.

The Bees used their momentum from the first set to storm out to 6-2 lead controlling the momentum of the game for the first half of the second set. The Bobcats weathered the storm and rallied back for an 8-8 tie. Both teams changed leads throughout the set until the Bobcats pulled ahead 20-15. Sky View finished off the tough set with a 25-18 win.

“I thought our girls held in there and kept trying to do the things we know. We usually don’t make as many errors as we did tonight,” Knowles said

“We kind of just lost focus in that second game for a while,” outside hitter Maddie Day said. “We had a really good game at Bonneville and I think we expected to play that good again.”

After a shaky second set the Bobcats regrouped and started the third set with a 7-0 lead. Sky View ran its lead up to 19 before finishing the match with a 25-7 win.

Up next for Sky View is a two-day tournament followed by the final two matches of region against valley rivals Logan and Mountain Crest.
