Mustangs pick up four set road win at Box Elder

HYRUM— The Mountain Crest girl’s volleyball team won in four sets Tuesday defeating the Box Elder Bees, 3-1. The Mustangs won 25-18, 18-25, 25-17, and 26-24 to win their third straight match.

“I’m really proud of the way we played tonight,” MC head coach Lori Karaghouli said. “We came out and played really hard and stuck it to them.”

Mountain Crest looked strong throughout each set and really set the tone early and continued to dominate the whole night.

Katie Harvey, who had 19 kills, four blocks and one ace, led the Mustangs out of the gate to help them take a 1-0 advantage.

Box Elder won the second set by winning by taking advantage of simple mistakes by the Mustangs. Mountain Crest quickly recovered and won the next two sets convincingly to seal the victory.

Harvey got help from teammate Milanna Barnes, who had 10 kills for the Mustangs to help lead the offensive attack. Kelsee Nelson made the most of the duo by having a game best 37 assists and also adding six kills and one block of her own.

The Mustangs got great team play the third set as they showed great teamwork and chemistry to win 25-17. The fourth and final set was a battle that went back and forth, before the Mustangs finally closed out Box Elder 26-24 to bring home the victory.

Mountain Crest closes out the regular season with a match against Rich Wednesday, and then a Senior Night showdown with Region 5 leader and valley rival Sky View on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
