Three USU football players to participate in 2013 Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game

<strong>LOGAN—</strong> Utah State senior football players Matt Austin, Bojay Filimoeatu and Al Lapuaho will all participate in the second annual Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game, which will be played at Kino Stadium in Tucson, Ariz., on Friday Jan. 11. The game will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks and available to watch live on ESPN3. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. (MT).

The 2013 Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game is the second annual post-season football exhibition of draft eligible college seniors. The game provides a platform for selected, elite athletes to showcase their talents to scouts from the NFL, CFL and Arena teams. In the inaugural Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game in 2012, 67 players were signed to NFL contracts.

In all, Utah State now has five football players who will be participating in all-star games this year as senior running back Kerwynn Williams will play in the 2013 East-West Shrine Game on January 19 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., while senior cornerback Will Davis will play in the 2013 Senior Bowl on January 26 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. Both the East-West Shrine Game and the Senior Bowl will be televised live on the NFL Network (Comcast Ch. 180, Dish Network Ch. 154, DirectTV Ch. 212).

Austin, a 6-2, 202-pound senior wide receiver from Monrovia, Calif. (Charter Oak HS/Mt. San Antonio JC) earned second-team all-Western Athletic Conference honors in 2012 as he finished the season leading the team in receptions (48) and receiving yards (729), and tying for first with five receiving touchdowns, while his 56.1 receiving yards per game average ranked ninth in the WAC.

Filimoeatu, a 6-1, 258-pound senior linebacker from West Valley City, Utah (Granger HS/Mt. San Antonio JC) finished his senior season ranking sixth on the team with 71 tackles. He also had 9.0 tackles for loss to rank second on the team, while his 5.0 sacks tied for third overall. Filimoeatu also registered a team-best 11 quarterback hurries in 2012 to go along with two pass breakups, one forced fumble and one interception that he returned 48 yards.

Lapuaho, a 6-3, 284-pound senior defensive lineman from West Valley City, Utah (Granger HS/Snow College) earned first-team all-WAC honors in 2012 as he led all USU defensive linemen and finished the year ranking 10th on the team with 35 tackles, to along with 4.5 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, four quarterback hurries, one forced fumble and one pass breakup. Lapuaho is the first Aggie defensive lineman to earn first-team all-conference honors since John Chick in 2005.

Utah State had its most successful season in school history in 2012 as it went 11-2 and set school records for wins (11) and home wins (6), while being nationally ranked in the Associated Press poll for three-straight weeks for the first time in school history. USU also won its first outright conference championship since 1936 and just its third in school history joining the 1921 and 1936 teams that both won Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference titles.

Utah State also finished the 2012 season winning its final seven games, which is tied for the fourth-longest active winning streak in the nation and tied for the third-longest winning streak in school history.
