Morgan squeeks past Bear River 76-75

After their win last Friday night against Grantsville, Bear River Head Coach Kasey Winters was quick to move ahead to the Bears’ next contest against the Morgan Trojans, saying that this would be a tough game and come right down to the wire.  He was right.

Unfortunately for the Bears they came out on the wrong end of several calls and on the wrong end of the scoreboard as they fell short to Morgan 76-75. Wade Miller led the scoring with 28 points and Cody King scored 14. The Trojans (11-1) were led by Jake Miles who lit the Bears up for 38 points.

Morgan also helped themselves plenty at the free throw line shooting 24 of 27, that includes Miles shooting 15 of 15, while the Bears shot 4 of 5, and did not shoot their first free throw until 5 minutes left in the game.

Bear River trailed after the 1st quarter 19-18. Morgan made a big run late in the 2nd quarter and led at half by 9. The second half saw the Trojans take an 11 point lead only to have it disappear. The Bears tied it four times in the 4th quarter.

Bear River had a chance to tie it again with under 20 seconds left in the game but Cody King missed a layup in traffic, a couple tip-in tries failed to fall in and Morgan hit their 23rd and 24th free throws to steal a road victory.

The Bears (9-4) will now travel to Stansbury for a Friday night game at 7 p.m.
