Bear River and Ben Lomond went the distance and then some. In the end it was the Scots who came out of Garland with a heart-stopping double overtime win 66-63.
The Bears had great contributions from Wade Miller who scored 25, Cody King with 15 and Kyle Zundle who scored 10. Ben Lomond was led by Sterling Brandlee who had 36 points. Josh Harden scored 18 and Corbin Madina had 6.
The Bears had a three point lead with :09 seconds left in regulation only to see Harden bury a three from the corner with three seconds left and no shot was attempted sending the game into its first overtime.
The two teams kept stride for stride, and it stayed tied as the two exhausted teams headed into a second overtime. Madina hit a pair of free throws and with the Scots up two Bear River’s Garret Fronk buried a jumper only to have it waived off because of an offensive foul.
Ben Lomond hit one of two free throws, Wade Miller grabbed the rebound, raced down court and buried a three to tie it. But the refs said it came out of his hand too late and the game was over. The Bears now will trek to Ogden for a Friday night game at 7 p.m.
